Trash the Dress

Waterproof Makeup in Riviera Maya, Mexico

The Riviera Maya has so much to offer for a destination wedding!

The beautiful turquoise sea and white sandy beaches are the perfect backdrops for a wedding, but we must not forget the Mayan jungle and its mystical cenotes. The word cenote comes from the Mayan “tz-onot”, which means something like a water hole or sinkhole.

Cenotes were very important to Mayan Civilization because it was their main freshwater source. They also believed that the cenotes were the “passageway” or connection with the “underworld” (also known as Xibalba), a sacred place.

Cenotes were also important ceremonial sites as the Mayans believed that Chaak, the god of water, inhabited these sites. The Mayans made offerings to ask the god for rain during periods of drought.
On the other hand, these freshwater sinkholes with crystal clear water, are becoming increasingly popular with Riviera Maya brides. Some even move their wedding ceremony from the beach to a cenote for a blessing with a Xaman. And addition to this, more and more brides are plunging into the cenotes in their gorgeous wedding gowns for a TTD (trash the dress) shoot. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.
And guess who’s there to help with flawless and long-lasting waterproof makeup? That’s right, Sarah Garnier Hair & Makeup Co.
