ALYSIA & CAMPBELL’S WEDDING

AlysiaCampbell-Papaya-Playa-Project-Tulum-Wedding-Photographer-426Tulum is one of the most beautiful beaches to get married in the Mexican Caribbean! And this wedding was magical!

We walk into Alysia’s room and we met all the bridesmaids! They were all so beautiful & fun! The room was full of good vibes, music and laughs!

Alysia is one of most spontaneous brides! We had a trial with her before to practice the hair and makeup styles for the big day, however, she decided to go with a totally different hair style than the one practiced… a braided updo!

La Catrina- the perfect halloween make up!

Hi everybody!

It’s October now, and we know everybody must be getting excited about Halloween at the end of the month! And also “the day of the dead” (Día de muertos) the 1st of November!  So instead of talking about bridal hair and make up we  have decided to to drift a little bit away from the wedding scene and just focus on Halloween and Día de Muertos theme make up!

Captura de pantalla 2018-10-08 a las 10.45.48 p.m.

So we have decided to talk about the Catrina (some of you might know it as sugar skull), but the Catrina is an iconic Mexican character created by the Mexican cartoon artist Jose Posada about 100 years ago, and popularized by Diego Rivera’s paintings. catrinas-maquillaje

And of course, since we are based in the Mexican Caribbean and we also love celebrating the day of the dead… well “The Catrina”  is of course our favorite make up for the holidays!

What do you need to achieve the look?

Black Eyeliner (pencil)

Face paint of various colors (white, black, yellow, red, or blue)

Spangle or glitter

Large  fake eyelashes.

Large flowers for a flower crown or a side ponytail with flowers.

You can be as authentic to the character painting your face white or you can give it a little twist and just make your face glowy-white for a more nude look!

3ed48c92ad4bf530a63a7e8ee0_cmUgOTUwIDQ3NQM4ZjM0OWRmMDNlZQ==_la-catrina-schminken

Another twist to the traditional Catrina make up is going hafsies on it,  draw a couple of flowers and emphasize your natural beauty in the “alive” side of the make up.

Captura de pantalla 2018-10-08 a las 10.28.32 p.m.

Although in the beginning la Catrina cartoon was indeed a mockery of Mexicans who denied their own cultural heritage and pretended to be of a different social class, today is a character that proudly represents Mexican folklore and culture honoring the memory of those who have passed away and remind us that no matter if you where rich or poor in the end we are all the same.

Happy Halloween and happy día de muertos! We hope you enjoy the festivities!

Your destination wedding- Mexican style!

September is a very special month in Mexico, we celebrate the independence day! So we have decided to write a special blog on how you can incorporate a bit of the mexican spice into your special day!

Mexico is known for it’s colorful folklore! You can include a bit of this color and fun into your wedding by decorating your tables with traditional napkins and by using the “loteria” images so your guests can identify their tables!  Don’t you love this splash of color?

Beauty basics you can do to prep for your wedding day!

15492075_1537393302955575_773872308846599447_nEvery bride deserves to look flawless on her wedding day. And to ensure that you look perfect on your special day there is a couple of beauty basics you can do to prep for your destination wedding!

Hair

Styling, coloring and blow-drying your hair in a daily basis can result in damage hair, so before the wedding day we would recommend you to hydrate and revitalize your hair by getting a Keratin treatment and maybe a couple weeks before the wedding get a little trim to get rid of the spit ends.

Perfect Hair Stylist Ask Question (3)

If you color your hair, we recommend you do it at least two weeks before the wedding, so the re-growth doesn’t show. And if you can,  bring with you a highlight activating / colour protecting shampoo!

Face

A good advice is to always keep hydrated! Especially when you arrive to the Riviera Maya, since you might not be used to the weather we will recommend you to drink lots and lots of water even if you are not thirsty!.

If you are planning on waxing your eyebrows, try to do it at least 3 days before the big day, so your skin isn’t irritated or red the day of.

drinking water

If you want to prepare your skin, you can also have a facial done at least a week before the wedding as facials can cause redness and breakouts. A week will be enough time for your skin to calm down and get back to normal.

Skin

If you are planning on sunbathing and 240_F_90571629_9wNAhLwBPKuJ1gqmeQmrS4Ghzv8RYVSXenjoying the gorgeous caribbean beach of Tulum, we would recommend you to always always use sunscreen, apply it as often as you can. Also, applying aloe-vera after a long day at the beach will help your skin recover and feel fresh!

Also, remember to bring a good sunscreen for your face and body, at least a 30SPF.

Accessories

Dirty-Blonde-Clip-In-Hair-ExtensionsSome brides choose to have hair extensions and eye-leash extensions. In this case we would recommend you to get the clip on extensions, rather than the glued ones, especially if you plan to jump in the pool or have a romantic ocean swim.

For the eyelashes, sometimes is better to get the fake eyelashes that come with your bridal make up, this way you can decide how bold you want them to be on the wedding day, rather than worrying if your permanent fake eyelashes might fall before the big day.

The amazing cotton candy pink lakes of Las Coloradas are located off the beaten track a bit. Getting there requires a 3 hour drive from Cancun or Playa del Carmen.

This day trip will take your breath away, the colors will melt your heart and you will also get the chance to get some amazing romantic pictures, adding magic memories to your destination wedding week.

The vibrant pink color of these lakes is due to red-colored algae, plankton, and brine shrimp that live in the salty environment. As water evaporates, these organisms become more concentrated creating these glimmering pink in under the bright Mexican sunlight

The streets of Holbox Island are made of white sand, there are very few cars, and the local fisherman still walk around the island with the catch of the day, but what is more important is that there is very few tourist, and the view you have of the beach will leave you speechless. The vibe and atmosphere of the island is so relaxing you will feel recharge after spending a day or two there.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue…with a twist

Angie-Jim_0013(pp_w890_h593)Photo by: Quetzal Studio

We have all heard the saying of something old, something new, something borrowed and something new. But what does it all mean?

Well, it comes from an Old English rhyme, and they are tokens of good luck that your family and friends will give to you on the big day. But hey, now that you are getting married in the beautiful Riviera Maya in the Mexican Caribbean, why don’t we continue with the tradition and give it a little twist… so we had some ideas on what some items that would be perfect for a destination wedding and also check the traditional requirements! .

Something Old-

Something old represents continuity.

Is there somthing your grandma gave you when you were little?, remeber those photo locklets that grandmas used to have? And even more perfect if it has a picture of grandma! Or even better, if grandma is at the wedding!

Captura de pantalla 2017-03-27 a las 1.01.12 p.m.

Photo: Fine Art Studio

Something new-

Represents optimism for the future.

Most brides something new is their wedding dress!, if you choose your something new to be the dress..this is awesome!, because after the wedding you can take it to the cenote or the beach and have alot of fun doing a trash the dress photoshoot!

Something borrowed-

Symbolizes happiness.

This is always a hard one. You could borrow a hair accessory from friends or family for your hair up-do, or borrow your mom’s jewelry…this is always a good one!

sofisticate up do

Something blue –

Represent purity, love, and fidelity.

Well this one was the easiest of them all, with the gorgeous turquoise blue ocean from the Riviera Maya as your background we are sure your marriage will be filled with love! And since we are in México, why not making a specialty blue cocktail with blue agave Tequila for your guests, nothing can go wrong with this …right?

Captura de pantalla 2017-03-27 a las 1.01.53 p.m.

Or if you would like to play it safe, you could let the groom help you out with this one… he could wear a blue suit for the perfect beach wedding!
